Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) issues have haunted the Jaguar 2.7 V6 Diesel owners over the years, the ‘limited performance’ warning message and countless trips back and forth to the dealer for overpriced forced regenerations is all a common reoccurrence.
The DPF is a filter in the exhaust system designed to catch and filter out the soot particles in the exhaust gasses, unfortunately this filter is a service part and needs regular motorway journeys to stay in good condition. When DPF capacity levels reach high enough or the filter has done its maximum number of regenerations known as self-clean cycles, the DPF will need to be replaced.
For many this is an option they would rather avoid because of the high cost of the filters and the risk of recurrent problems!At West Coast Remaps we are able to remove the DPF from the exhaust system and remap the ECU (Engine Control Unit) to prevent the vehicle from sensing the removed particle filter.
The Process
- Firstly we do not physically remove the filter, we only remove the internals and the outer DPF compartment is left as it is along with all sensors, therefore the vehicle still appears to have a DPF fitted and will appear unmodified so complying with current MOT regulations.
- Once the filter removal has been carried out the vehicle Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is reprogrammed and any DPF related software is removed from the vehicles programme, this will prevent the vehicle recognising the missing filter and will stop any future DPF regeneration or warning lights. This is a very important aspect of the removal procedure and it is vital that it is reprogrammed correctly or DPF issues will persist
